In our brand new series of Employee Spotlights, you get to meet our brilliant Unifii team members! This month we stay local to our London HQ to meet Matthew - see what he had to say in our Q&A.
Meet Matthew Hart:
Hi, I’m Matt and I’m a Principal Consultant at Unifii’s London office. I’ve been with the company for over four years now, joining back in March 2017. I’ve been working with ServiceNow in some shape or form for nearly ten years, either as a customer or as a consultant.
How did you become interested in the industry and how did you stumble upon Unifii?
I’ve always been the type to want to challenge myself in some sort of capacity and I got into ServiceNow after being a customer for many years. When I was tasked with configuring the old ESS portal for one of my previous employers, I instantly saw the power of the platform and haven’t looked back ever since. I’m constantly expanding my knowledge and trying to keep up with ServiceNow’s ever-growing application portfolio.
What do you enjoy the most about working at Unifii?
I know this sounds cheesy but the people really do make it an amazing place to work! Pre-Covid the office was always buzzing and when required we all muck in to get projects over the line – this really shows the great team ethic that has been built up over the years, and is continuing to grow given that we are constantly expanding staff-wise. I’ve also always really enjoyed the fact that if you want to learn something new at Unifii then all you need to do is ask and show that you have the drive, and you can count on being supported 100% of the way. I’m a more experienced consultant nowadays but even when I first started, I appreciated that I was given the opportunity to run projects – I feel like other consultancy firms wouldn’t have done this and shown such confidence in me. This has enabled me to learn and develop at a ridiculous speed which I will forever be thankful for, and has put me in great stead moving forwards both personally and professionally!
What has been the most exciting project you have worked on in your time here?
For me, the bigger the project the better - I really like to test myself and it's great to see Unifii’s best practices still being used successfully, regardless of the size of the client, across all applications with ServiceNow. In addition to client projects at Unifii we also encourage internal projects, as this helps to further improve processes and enables individual staff to finely tune or enhance their skillsets. Internal projects are always fun and a real benefit to the company and to business.
Did your working life change much as a result of COVID-19?
I must admit I’ve always been one to work from home when possible, primarily because the trainline from my house to London is the world’s worst (we often laugh about a train once breaking down 20 metres from my platform, meaning I had to work from home that day). In all seriousness Covid has meant that I have probably worked a hell of a lot more hours (and have suffered a little from Death by Teams Meetings), along with the rest of the industry. That being said, I’ve realised how important it is to ensure you have a healthy work/life balance, and I’ve really missed socialising - not only with my colleagues, but with clients as well. I’m looking forward to making sure that I go into the office more regularly than I used to and - most importantly, I think we can all agree - getting down the pub for after work drinks!
How do you see yourself growing in the next few years?
For me seeing the growth we have had over the last couple of years has been amazing, not just personally (having started at Unifii as a consultant and I am now a principal), but also as the business as a whole. It’s been invigorating to be a part of that and see myself and my colleagues progress. I just want to continue the trend, so onwards and upwards!
What do you do in your spare time?
I have always been a sports lover - I’m a massive Chelsea fan so you’ll often find me at The Bridge on a Saturday. I also co-manage my local football team, though my first season of management was annoyingly cut short thanks to this dreaded virus! I’m a keen but very average golfer, currently off a 20 handicap which is just scandalous (COWBOY!) And like many others, I’ve acquired this newfound love for something different during lockdown – mine being sitting by a lake not catching any fish, despite my best efforts!
